Cynthia Nearman, Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing, Selena Wolf Berkley, Assistant Director of the Learning and Writing Center (LWC), and Melissa Daniel, Director of the Learning and Writing Center, will present at the 2023 Conference on College Composition and Communication in Chicago from February 15-18, 2023.
Their panel, “Avowing Anti-Racist Praxis in a Small Liberal Arts Writing Center,” features the early stages of their work on a new LWC mission statement, policies, and practices designed to strengthen and amplify anti-racism, inclusion, and accessibility.
Their efforts build on related developments at much larger universities around the U.S. and seek to design similar practices for tutoring, teaching, and learning at Guilford. The upcoming presentation details the ways they’ve begun to incorporate the spirit of this mission into LWC services and into first-year writing pedagogy.
This semester, Melissa's, Selena's and Cynthia’s work and travel are supported by Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching Educational Development and Excellence in Teaching funds.
