President Kyle Farmbry shares an update on the inaugural Presidential Fellowship program.
Friends,
I am very pleased to introduce the four inaugural members of the Guilford College Presidential Fellowship Program. The Fellows will begin their studies as master’s students at the College this fall and serve as community leaders and assistants to the staff in five administrative areas starting on Aug. 8.
The Fellowship program is designed to be a win-win situation for these master’s students and the College. As recent Guilford undergraduates, they will receive support for their continuing academic pursuits and some practical experience in higher education while we strengthen our resources for accomplishing important work in Advancement, Communications and Marketing, the Provost’s Office, Admission, and Career, Academic, and Personal Exploration (CAPE).
The Presidential Fellows are Ananya Bernardo ’22, Corby Brooke ’21, Hunter Neal ’22 ,and Chloe Pope ’22. Each of these students are well known in the campus community for their leadership and accomplishments.
The students were chosen in an application and interview process in the spring and, for up to 18 months (the duration of their master’s programs), they will receive tuition, on-campus housing, a meal plan and a stipend in turn for 20 hours of work per week in an administrative office. In addition to receiving mentorship and professional development through the Fellowship program, they will contribute to service projects and occasional volunteer projects on campus (in turn, mentoring current undergraduate students and offering campus stewardship).
Ananya, of Silver Spring, Md., is among the first students in our new MBA program. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Anthropology with minors in Spanish Language & Society and Visual Arts Printmaking. The student speaker at Commencement in 2022, Ananya served as a junior and senior intern in the Bonner Center for Community Service and Learning and provided critical leadership in 2020 during the absence of the director of the program. She was a residential adviser, a global ambassador for Study Abroad, and an Orientation leader and peer mentor. Ananya is expected to work in the Provost’s Office.
Corby, of Charlotte, who graduated last spring, also will be among our first MBA students. After graduation, Corby started working part-time with Charles Aris Executive Search in Greensboro. On campus she distinguished herself as a student-athlete, serving as captain of the women’s soccer team and President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and she will be exercising her option to play women’s soccer this year. She was the lone female student-athlete representative on the Title IX Gender Equity in Athletics Committee in the 2018-19 academic year. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Communications and was an Honors Program graduate. Corby plans to work in Admission and CAPE.
Hunter, of Archdale, N.C., is among the first students in our Master of International Sport Management (MISM) program. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management with minors in Sports Marketing and Film and Video. He competed for the men’s basketball team for three years and worked as an assistant coach with the women’s basketball team for one season in a Sport Management internship. He was on the staff of WQFS and the Guilfordian, and he participated in a number of volunteer activities as an undergraduate. Hunter is expected to work in Communications and Marketing.
Chloe, of Lexington, N.C., will be pursuing a master’s degree in Criminal Justice (MCJ). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Biology and served as a co-facilitator and teaching assistant for two courses, including the Senior Capstone Seminar in Criminal Justice. In addition to her coursework, she participated in ride-alongs with the Greensboro and High Point police departments and job-shadowed with Professional Mortuary Transport. She tutored in the Glen Haven Community. Chloe is expected to work in the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations.
I’m excited about the first year of the Presidential Fellows program and the contributions these master’s students will make. Please join me in welcoming them on board.
Warmly,
Kyle Farmbry
President
