Attending a remarkable private college like Guilford is more affordable than you think. Ignore the sticker price! Guilford has a competitive financial aid program, which benefits 100 percent of students.
"I have heard from many students and parents that they were surprised to see just how affordable Guilford College is after our generous financial aid programs are awarded. We are committed to giving students the educational opportunity they deserve at an affordable price."
Below, the Office of Financial Aid debunks five myths commonly associated with tuition.
Myth: You can’t afford to attend a private college.
Fact: At Guilford College, we firmly believe in empowering students through accessible and affordable education. Our steadfast commitment is reflected in the substantial investments we make to ensure each student can unlock their academic potential.
Our commitment to the Class of 2023 is manifested through a generous investment of $12.5 million in scholarships and grant aid for our first-year students. This significant undertaking underscores our dedication to fostering an environment where financial constraints are minimized, and educational aspirations are prioritized.

Myth: Getting perfect grades is the only way you'll earn a scholarship.
Fact: Guilford knows that you're more than a GPA and a test score. Your class rank, academic courses, service experiences, and extracurricular interests all affect the scholarship you receive. Guilford is also 100 percent test-optional, which means you can provide a writing portfolio instead of test scores. Your Guilford counselor wants to get to know the real you.
Myth: You don’t need to fill out the FAFSA because your parents make too much money.
Fact: Every Guilford student should fill out the FAFSA every year. (It's quick and easy to do, promise!) It determines your eligibility for federal and state grants, and it provides access to guaranteed, low-interest student loans, as well as parent loans. Guilford also uses the FAFSA to award additional College grants to those who qualify.
Myth: You’ll graduate with debt you can’t pay off.
Fact: Like a home, college is an investment that pays off over time. And it’s important to remember that affordability includes financial resources you’ll have down the road as a result of your college degree. According to the U.S. Department of Education, those with a bachelor's degree earn 84 percent more in lifetime earnings compared to high-school graduates.
