Dear Guilford staff, faculty and students,
We’re writing with a reminder about the schedule for winter break and with a request for your help in taking actions to save costs and conserve energy while the campus is closed.
Winter break will be observed Monday, Dec. 23, through Tuesday, Dec. 31, followed by the New Year’s Day holiday on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Offices will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, and classes resume Monday, Jan. 6.
We encourage you to participate in our Winter Energy Savings Initiative by powering down your workspaces before you leave campus for winter break. Please take the following actions in spaces you occupy:
- Switch off power strips and unplug electronics that are plugged directly into the wall. Do not unplug refrigerators.
- Close and lock all windows and close shades.
- Set your thermostat around 65°F, if easily adjustable. Do not turn the heat off.
- Turn off lights.
- Remove trash.
- Close and lock all interior and exterior doors.
- If you have maintenance issues, like leaky faucets, running toilets or overly hot or cold rooms, submit the appropriate work order to Facilities.
Remind colleagues and fellow students to take these actions before they leave, too. Thank you for your continued efforts to reduce costs and conserve resources.
We wish you a restful and happy winter break.
Sincerely,
Maria Rosales, Provost
