The day will feature several events, including the installment of Kyle Farmbry as Guilford's tenth president.
Kyle Farmbry will be installed as Guilford College’s 10th president to kick off a Celebration of Community on Saturday, March 18, at 1 pm at Dana Auditorium. Alumni, friends and members of the wider community are invited to join faculty, staff and students for activities that day.
Meredeth Summers, Chief of Staff, says it is Kyle’s wish to make the day about celebrating Guilford and those who make the College shine.
“That’s who he is as a person and his full acknowledgement of the importance of human interdependence,” says Meredeth. “It's not in his nature to have a day on Guilford's campus without somehow intentionally making Guilford and everyone who is part of the College the primary focus.”
In keeping with Kyle’s wishes, the day will celebrate Guilford and honor and remember those who practice its Core Values. Activities will include:
- Reflections on Community at 1 pm at Dana. The program will include a moment of installation, with the Guilford Board of Trustees officially delegating duties to Kyle as President. The ceremony will be available via livestream.
- Memorial Tree Planting at 2 pm on the Quad. The ceremony will pay tribute to Guilford community members who died in the past year.
- Student and Community Fair at 2 pm on Founders Lawn. The fair will lift up students and community partners who have advanced social justice, civic engagement and community service.
- Looking Forward Reception at 3 pm on the Founders Terrace and in Founders Lobby. The reception will celebrate those who supported Guilford through Save Guilford College, the Guilford Forward Fund and other initiatives, as well as faculty and staff who play important daily roles in the College.
