President Kyle Farmbry announces the passing of Marcy Maury '74.
Friends,
The Guilford College community lost one of its most dedicated alumni with the passing of Marcy Maury '74 on Friday, Jan. 6, in Greensboro. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. at Dana Auditorium on campus.
Marcy attended a meeting of the Guilford College Art Appreciation Club on Jan. 3 and was traveling home with a friend when she had a medical emergency. She was immediate past president of the club and an accomplished artist, sculptor and potter.
That was one of her many connections and commitments to the College and community.
She served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors as well as the Friends of the Library board and the Quaker Club board and was a College benefactor.
She was actively involved with preparations for the 50th reunion of the Class of 1974 in 2024, having been a reunion organizer for her class since 1984.
She volunteered as American Sign Language interpreter for Guilford's Commencement ceremony for a number of years.
She was active at New Garden Friends Meeting, where she taught First Day School for 25 years, and was dedicated to her Quaker faith.
As Sommer Fanney '18 wrote in 2020, she had a knack for detecting and serving in situations of need.
In 2020, the College honored Marcy with its oldest Alumni Association award, the Charles C. Hendricks '40 Distinguished Service Award.
Please join me in holding in the Light Marcy's husband, John Paul Roy, two sons and four grandchildren, as well as other family members and her many friends in this time of loss.
Warmly,
Kyle Farmbry
President
