This year, the Leak Room of Duke Hall will undergo a transformation to an interactive, collaborative learning and presentation space. The renovation is made possible by funding from a $2.2 million Title III grant and a $130,000 grant from the Cannon Foundation.
Friends,
We’re writing to invite you to learn more about the Leak Room project at an open house for the Guilford College community on Wednesday, Feb. 1. It’s a drop-in opportunity between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with presentations by technologies and furnishings service providers planned between 1 and 2:30 p.m. during Community Time.
Doug Fairburn, sales representative for furniture manufacturer KI, and Brian Cox, sales engineer at Audio and Light, will make presentations and answer questions about the transformative new furnishings and technologies that will be the hallmarks of the Leak Room's transformation. We will have renderings for viewing, and refreshments will be served.
The Leak Room, a large capacity tiered classroom in Duke Hall — the College’s second-oldest building — has been in its present configuration for more than 50 years.
Plans for the room include replacing the fixed seating with height-adjustable and multi-directional seats, enabling collaboration among students in adjacent tiers. The room will also be equipped with technology that will support both front and rear presentations and will enable both simultaneous and dedicated displays within six seating zones.
The space will feature high-quality sound and imaging, with teleconferencing and lecture-capture capabilities. A wireless environment will further support mobility and flexibility. Laptop kiosks dispensing both PC and Mac laptops will be available for those who do not have their own devices.
Please join us on Feb. 1 to learn more about the exciting project to develop our newest and most dynamic collaborative learning space.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Bartels
