New CPPSET Educational Development Funds

The Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching is pleased to announce some new educational development funding opportunities.

These new opportunities include:

  • Ethical leadership white paper stipends,
  • Conference support for students,
  • Educational development funding for new part-time staff, and
  • Retreat funding to support planning for departments and programs.

See below for more information and application links.

I. Ethical Leadership White Paper

CPPSET and the Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching and Learning Technologies Advisory Committees offer funding for individuals to draft white papers to explore how your particular discipline might enhance Guilford students' understanding, goals, and practices related to ethical leadership, and how a more intentional focus on ethical leadership in your discipline might inform and advance the work of the discipline itself.

  • The award is a $1,000 stipend for an individual or group of authors to research and author the white paper.
  • More information, and an application form, can be found on the CPPSET website. Make sure to use the form labeled, "Ethical Leadership White Paper Proposal (2021-22)."

II. Conference Grants for Students

These new funds are intended to help students attend conferences and other events directly related to their coursework or educational endeavors at Guilford College. Students should be in good standing with Guilford College both when applying and for the duration of the conference or event they are applying for.

  • Up to $300 are available to individual students.
  • Applicants will need to have a faculty sponsor to apply.
  • We encourage faculty and staff to encourage students to apply or contact CPPSET.
  • More information, and an application form, can be found on the CPPSET website. Make sure to use the form labeled, "CPPSET EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS FOR STUDENTS APPLICATION (2021-22)."

III. Educational Development Grants for New Part-time Faculty/Instructors

Part-time faculty and instructors who have not taught at Guilford for five consecutive years can now apply for educational development grants up to $300 in support of their teaching at Guilford. Until now, these colleagues have not been able to access any educational development funds. This is an effort to help bridge this gap.

  • More information, and an application form, can be found on the CPPSET website. Applicants can use the standard educational development form labeled, "CPPSET EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS APPLICATION (2021-22)."

IV. Departmental / Program Retreats

These grants support departments or programs (such as interdisciplinary majors or minors) to conduct a retreat to plan for the future and explore ideas about potential collaborations, cross-trainings, consolidations, or anything along those lines that will help us meet our educational mission more effectively.

  • Retreat proposals should have clear educational outcomes.
  • Awards can be used for food for your retreat (up to $25 per person) and can pay a  stipend of $150 per person for a day’s work.
  • More information, and an application form, can be found on the CPPSET website. Applicants can use the standard educational development form labeled, "CPPSET EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS: RETREAT APPLICATION (2021-22)."
