Biography
This is the second go-around for Dr. Terry G. Schwartz at Guilford College. He was a full-time adjunct professor in the Sport Sciences Department for four years until the COVID-19 pandemic took place. He is teaching in the Sport Studies master’s in international Sport Management. He has also taught full-time as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and Western Illinois University. Visiting professor positions were held at San Francisco State University, Aurora University, and Roosevelt University. He also taught at the University of Illinois graduate school in the Travel Tourism, Sport Management, and Park And Recreation Administration Department.
Terry has a long career serving park and recreation organizations as the Executive Director and lead administrator in the Midwest and on the West Coast of the U.S. His career has provided him with management responsibilities of a significant diversity of organizations large and small.
In addition to serving as an Executive Director, he has been the principal manager of destination facilities in the City and County of San Francisco. Responsibilities included oversight of large national attractions such as Candlestick Park; Harding Park Golf Course, the site that hosted the 2009 President’s Cup, three museums, a 850 vessel marina, and 109 athletic fields.
He offers significant experience managing local attractions, including indoor tennis clubs, ice arenas, aquatic and beach facilities, and golf courses. Throughout his career, he has assisted or directed strategic planning and master planning studies of over 50 communities. One of his greatest personal accomplishments yielded $20 million in capital improvements in a community of 12,500 residents. In addition, he is the brainchild of a mentoring program designed to help administrators and staff become improved managers of their operating systems.
