Biography
Hello, I am Laura Sammon. I have worked for Wells Fargo for 27 years, my current role as a Financial Crimes Risk and Control officer has led me to want to expand my knowledge of the Criminal Justice system. In 2021 I acquired a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice at Guilford College with a concentration in collaborative approaches to fight human trafficking and I am now an adjunct professor, at Guilford College, teaching college and graduate level courses on white collar crimes and human trafficking.
The newfound passion in teaching has motivated me to continue to gain experience in the classroom and get involved in programs that have important impacts within our community. My passion to help those who cannot help themselves has led me to volunteer my time to assist victims of crime as well as understanding the offenders' motivations and things that increase criminal occurrences.
I have five years of experience working with at-risk youth and mentoring survivors on matters which intersect with financial systems. I hold certifications in Anti-money laundering, Counter terrorism and Anti-human trafficking, which allows me to identify the occurrence of crimes such as human trafficking within the financial systems as well as assess its impact on a victim.
I have had the opportunity to participate in the Wiser Justice Program and I am now entering into her 3rd semester teaching for this program. This program has opened my eyes to a whole new need and I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to participate and expand the program. Guilford has been such a pivotal part of my life and I'm extremely happy to be able to remain in the Guilford community, using the skills I was taught to help our community strengthen.
