Biography


Drew Hays joined the faculty of Guilford College in 2007 and currently serves as chair of the Music Department.

Drew actively performs as both a classical and jazz artist. He is a founding member and baritone saxophonist of the Piedmont Triad Jazz Orchestra and has performed throughout North Carolina with the group, including at the John Coltrane International Jazz Festival in High Point, and serves as one of the ensemble’s in-house arrangers. He performs regularly throughout the Greensboro and surrounding area with jazz small groups, including his own trio and quartet, the Guilford College Jazz Faculty Quintet, as well as the Wally West Little Big Band. Drew has toured throughout the U.S. and in the U.K. as the baritone saxophonist in the New Century Saxophone Quartet, and has performed with the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Charlotte Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony, the Roanoke Symphony, and the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra.

During the summer, he serves as Music Director of the John Coltrane Jazz Workshop in High Point, N.C., and on the faculty of the James Houlik Saxophone Retreat at Wildacres. Drew has performed and given lectures at the World Saxophone Congress, the Jazz Education Network Conference, the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, and the Carolina Saxophone Symposium. He has performed as soloist with the University of Illinois Chicago Wind Ensemble, the Carthage College Wind Ensemble, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Duquesne University Orchestras.
