Create Empowering Connections

Have you ever wondered why so many people seem disconnected and isolated? The Community Studies minor focuses on community building, a field that studies societal institutions and how they systematically undermine respect and authenticity among a community’s residents, as well as strategies for developing trust and power among people to address the issues affecting their lives.

The need for community building is gaining the attention across the country — and the world. As new disciplines emerge and technology expands, we are becoming more aware that we lack sustainable systems that enable our communities to thrive.

Community Studies minors have received advanced degrees in law, social work, folklore studies, psychology, education, public affairs and community studies. They have also built careers as nonprofit organization directors, mediators, community organizers, educators and corrections officers, to name just a few.
