Discover new ways to see and think about Japanese culture with a minor in Japanese Language and Society. You’ll learn how to communicate in the language and about such topics as gender, media and contemporary society.

The program focuses on language-learning as a transformative activity and fosters international understanding while providing knowledge and skills that are increasingly essential in our global society.

Japanese Language and Society requires a minimum of 20 credit hours (five courses) at the 200-level or above.

If it's your dream to move to Japan to travel or teach, or to work for a company based in Japan, this minor will prepare you to continue studying the language and give you the confidence to immerse yourself in Japanese culture.
