Dan Mosca explains why Guilford College is so important

Dan Mosca is the Interim Chair/Clerk of the Board of Trustees.

Dan Mosca explains why Guilford College is so important to him in the first of a series of videos profiling Board of Trustees members helping the College.

“I learned about the personal attention and the ways that students thrived when they came here, developed their own inner selves and their own talents. I think that convinced me that my daughter was appropriate for Guilford and Guilford was appropriate for her.”

When Dan Mosca learned his daughter, Stacey, was interested in attending Guilford College in the 1980s, he wanted to do his own research on the small liberal arts college. The more he learned about Guilford, the more intrigued he became.

“I learned about the personal attention and the ways that students thrived when they came here, developed their own inner selves and their own talents,” says Dan, an investor and retired long-term care executive. “I think that convinced me that my daughter was appropriate for Guilford and Guilford was appropriate for her.”

Stacey Mosca Seguin ’90 graduated 35 years ago. Her brother, Paul Mosca ’93, followed, and then her daughter, Sarah Seguin ’22. With each new family member at Guilford, Dan became more involved in the College.

Initially, Dan and and his wife Beth, residents of nearby Brown Summit, N.C., were on a Parent’s Council, then on the Board of Visitors. Dan joined the Board of Trustees in 2002 and has served for more than 20 years.

The Mosca family, through generous philanthropy, established and has played a major role in sustaining the Center for Principled Problem Solving and Excellence in Teaching at Guilford.

In January, Dan became the Interim Chair/Clerk of the Board of Trustees after Jean Bordewich, who was serving as Chair/Clerk, became Acting President of the College.

Dan is an integral part of a team that is leading Guilford through a period of presidential transition, including Jean, Keith Millner ’82 as Acting Chief Operating Officer, Paula Sours ’76 and Carla Brenner ’73.

Dan shared his thoughts on why he invests his time and philanthropy in Guilford in a video this week, the latest in a series of interviews with Guilford leaders.
