Dana Auditorium will receive card readers and security cameras thanks to a FEMA grant.
The College will be adding security cameras and card readers to Dana Auditorium as well as the East And North apartments.
Guilford has received $450,000 in Federal Emergency Management Agency grants to install security cameras and card readers for access at Dana Auditorium and the North and East apartments. The grants will also allow the College’s Public Safety Department to update its radio system.
“These grants are going to make Guilford an even safer campus for students,” said Ted Johnson, Director of Public Safety. “And the new radio system will make our public safety team even more responsive to students’ needs.”
The grants will allow the College to install card readers outside every apartment. Cameras will be positioned to show corridors, hallways and parts of the parking lots in both complexes.
Card readers at Dana will make the auditorium safer by limiting access to students, faculty and some staff unless a public event is being held. New, high-definition cameras trained on Dana will also provide some coverage to Armfield Athletic Center and the Worth Houses, where the Bonner Center and Friends Center are located
The cameras will be equipped with the latest facial- and license plate-reading technology that will alert public safety officials if someone is on campus who was previously banned. Ted says installation of the cameras and card readers is expected to take place in 2025.
