No fewer than five of Guilford’s spring-sports teams have qualified for Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournaments, marking a successful spring season for the athletic program. 

The baseball team , under third-year coach Zach Booker, hosts defending NCAA Division III champion Lynchburg April 27 in its regular-season finale with a mathematical chance of a top-four conference finish.

Regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s doubleheader (noon, McBane Field), the Quakers (19-19 overall, 11-9 ODAC) have clinched their first back-to-back appearances in the conference tournament since 2012. 

Zach credits the performance of the pitching staff – “they’ve made huge strides, leaps and bounds,” he says – as well as the contributions of a core of players competing the past three seasons and the work of his assistant coaches and athletics strength coach.

“We have been working to change the culture and trajectory of the program,” he says.

Guilford is sixth and Lynchburg, fourth, in the ODAC standings entering the final regular-season weekend. The top eight finishers advance to the tournament in best-of-three series at home fields of the top four teams May 3-5. The tournament concludes the following weekend in Tysons, Va.

The softball team has qualified for the conference tournament in back-to-back years for the first time since 2019. First-year coach Charissa Duncan ’10 has guided the team to an 18-20 overall record (10-10 ODAC) entering its regular-season finale at Roanoke April 27 (1 pm). The Quakers have won five of their last eight contests.

The golf team , under first-year coach Allen Smith, competes in the ODAC Tournament April 28-30 in Williamsburg, Va., coming off three straight top-10 finishes in regular-season tournaments. Earlier this month the team was ranked No. 15 nationally, one of five ODAC teams among the top 30. Guilford finished seventh in last year’s NCAA Championship.

Coach Dave McCain’s men’s tennis team has qualified for the ODAC Tournament (date and opponent to be determined) with an 8-8 overall record (5-4 ODAC). 

The track and field teams ( men’s , women’s ), under first-year coach Kevin Scola, are competing in the ODAC outdoor championship April 26 and 27 in Bridgewater, Va.

One other Guilford team may qualify for its ODAC Tournament, the men’s lacrosse team (7-9 overall, 3-5 ODAC) under first-year coach Marty Kelly, which hosts Virginia Wesleyan in its regular-season finale April 27 (1 pm) at Armfield Athletic Center.

Women’s tennis and women’s lacrosse teams have concluded their seasons.
