H. Curt ’56 and Patricia S. ’57 Hege Professor of History Tim Kircher presented an online lecture to an international audience on the topic of letter-writing during the Renaissance. The June 24 lecture, “The Community of Letters in Renaissance Italy,” was the summation of a two-month fellowship at the Freie Universität in Berlin. It discussed the ways Renaissance humanists were motivated to explore classical texts on account of the concerns and cares they felt for their friends. The lecture explored a new way of examining the principles of the humanities, as the humanists developed them.
