Captivated by Japan
Live in Japan for a semester. Study Japanese speaking cultures where ancient traditions meet thriving metropoles. Immerse yourself with local students in the cities of Kyoto and Osaka, or explore the major international business hub of Tokyo. Dive into Japanese culture — on campus and abroad.
You’ll study political, social, historical, artistic, and literary elements of Japanese and Japanese-speaking cultures. And you can join other language students in extracurricular activities including festivals, conversation tables, clubs, and more.
The Japanese track within the Modern Language Studies major consists of at least 32 credits at the 102-level or above, with at least one 400-level course (two if you are completing a senior thesis). All majors are expected to study abroad with an appropriate Guilford program before graduating. Japanese language students must participate in Guilford’s Kansai Gaidai or ICU abroad program or its equivalent.
Students planning to attend graduate school are urged to choose the senior thesis. Complement your major with another major to enhance career opportunities in fields such as business, media, and technology, to name just a few.
