President Kyle Farmbry has been appointed to the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities’ board of directors for a two-year term beginning this fall. Guilford College joined CUMU in 2023.

“I’m honored by the appointment and excited about how I can support CUMU, the College and Greensboro together,” says Kyle. “Guilford’s mission is one that is shared by the people who live and work in Greensboro. We want to use our students and resources to help our city and communities flourish. This role will help do just that.”

“Our urban and metropolitan campuses are on the front lines of higher education’s most critical issues. Members of the CUMU board of directors recognize the evolving and critical role their campuses play in the success of their students and the well-being of their regions,” said CUMU Executive Director Valerie Holton. “I want to thank President Farmbry for his leadership and commitment to CUMU.”

CUMU was founded by college leaders in 1989 to leverage the power of higher education to enhance their communities. CUMU members have played an important part in strengthening higher education’s role in urban settings, collaborating across institutions to prioritize information exchange and research regarding metropolitan colleges and communities.

Other North Carolina schools that are CUMU members include UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro and UNC Wilmington.
