Lavon Williams Receives HHS Alumni Award from UNCG

Lavon Williams, retired Lincoln Financial Professor of Sport Studies, received a Pacesetter Award from the Department of Kinesiology in the School of Health & Human Sciences at UNCG, where she earned her doctorate in 1996.

The Pacesetter Awards, presented Oct. 19, honor outstanding alumni in the school who have attained local, state or regional recognition through their achievements in scholarship, leadership or service, during their career or through civic involvement.

Lavon retired from Guilford after 19 years in May but is teaching part-time this fall. Earlier this year she was awarded an endowed professorship and served as faculty-in-residence in the Office of Career, Academic and Personal Exploration (CAPE).

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Texas Christian University, a master’s degree in Social Psychology of Sport and Exercise from the University of Oregon and a Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from UNCG.
