Born and raised in California, Maria Rosales went to California State University, Stanislaus, for her BA. After receiving her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, Maria moved across the country in 2005 to teach Political Science at Guilford College. She received tenure in 2013 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2019.

Her research interests revolve around how identity, time, and resources affect political engagement and effectiveness.
Over the years she has served many roles at Guilford College, including most recently Clerk of the Faculty. Other positions have included Faculty Development Associate for Inclusive Pedagogy, Chair of the Political Science Department, and Director of Faculty Development. In August 2021 she became Provost, where she is working to reduce barriers for employees and students, so they can more easily accomplish what they want to accomplish.
