College Plans Historic Marker Dedication

Guilford invites the larger College community to campus on Friday, March 25, 2022, for the unveiling and dedication of a historic marker commemorating the life of Lavina "Vina" Curry.
3:30 p.m. Friday, March 25
Guilford College Campus

Intersection of West Friendly Avenue and George White Road

Reception to follow.

Curry was a free Black abolitionist who worked at New Garden Boarding School and risked her life as an operative on the Underground Railroad.

A component project of Guilford College’s Curry-Coffin Commission on Slavery, Race, and Recognition, a sponsor of the event, this marker will bring recognition to Curry’s remarkable life and to the vital roles African Americans played in the Underground Railroad and the early life of Guilford College.
