[Return to Guilford's COVID-19 Hub]
Here is this week’s update regarding our ongoing College-wide efforts to safeguard the health of our community. Please read the full update for vital information on testing and considerations for maximizing office safety and working remotely.
COVID-19 Testing
We are encouraged to have received several inquiries about testing. While we do not have any upcoming testing clinics on campus, we want to provide our community with testing options within Guilford County. Thank you to Susan Smith for compiling the following list:
- CVS Drug Stores: The CVS at Guilford College does not do onsite COVID-19 testing. If an individual is symptomatic, they can go online to complete the online health evaluation. The person will then be offered an appointment at a nearby CVS location where a test (drive through) would be administered. The appointments fill quickly and usually require a one-day wait for an appointment. They do testing on symptomatic individuals only.
- FastMed: There are two nearby locations, 3215 Battleground Ave. (336.387.5020) and 5402 W. Market St. (336.387.3346).They test both asymptomatic and symptomatic individuals. Walk in or make an appointment online.
- Eagle Physicians at Guilford College: This option is only for Guilford College students. If a student has COVID-19 symptoms, they may call 336.294.6190 and ask to schedule a telehealth visit. If warranted, students will be directed to go to the Eagle Physicians at the Tannenbaum COVID-19 testing site at 301 E. Wendover Avenue.
- Triad Behavioral Resources: 810 Warren St, Greensboro, NC, 27403. Call 336.389.1413 and follow the prompts for info on COVID Test. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Drive-through testing for asymptomatic or symptomatic individuals; no appointment needed.
- Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services
- N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCSHHS)
- Cone Health: Testing sites change weekly. Learn more online.
If you go for testing, take a photo ID and your medical insurance card. Most insurance companies are covering the test, but contact your insurance company if you have questions.
If you do not live in Guilford County, we recommend that you find your local Department of Health and Human Services office for testing options in your county.
Keeping Staff Safe
The College has transitioned to all online classes with most of our students currently off campus. We are still mindful of our staff who are working on campus and the need to keep them as safe as possible during this holiday season. We want to remind staff and supervisors of some ways to achieve a healthy workplace environment.
- Offices and Workstations: Departments should assess work environments and meeting rooms to institute measures to physically separate and increase distance between employees. If an employee works in an office, no more than one person should be in the same room unless the required 6 feet of distance can be consistently maintained. Open work areas require the use of face masks.
- Remote Work: While students are off campus, those who can work remotely to fulfill their work responsibilities should be encouraged to do so in order to reduce the number of individuals on campus and the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus. Arrangements to work remotely must be approved by the immediate supervisor. Remote work can be done in a full or partial day/week schedule as appropriate. Work productivity must continue to meet defined standards even if the work is done remotely.
- Alternating Days: To limit the number of individuals and interactions among those on campus, departments should plan to have staff alternate their days in the office to facilitate social distancing, especially in areas with large common workspaces. On days when not scheduled to be in the office, staff should work from home or an alternate location.
- Staggered Reporting/Departing: The beginning and end of the workday typically brings many people together at common entry and exit points of buildings. Staggering reporting and departure times for employees’ work shifts and break times by at least 30 minutes will reduce traffic in common areas to meet social distancing requirements. (See Enter/Exit Controls for further details).
As always, please continue to practice the 3 W’s:
- Wear a face covering.
- Wait 6 feet apart from others.
- Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer.
We will resume our weekly communication on Dec 11. Please remember that if you have any questions related to COVID-19 and our efforts to mitigate the pandemic on campus, please call the COVID-19 Hotline at 336.316.2319. We are all in this together!
