Ready for the Big Leagues

With impressive talents on and off the field, Max Green ’24 looks forward to continuing his education, athletics, and community service at Guilford.

A love of competition and comradery led Max to join the baseball and cross country teams at Cornerstone Charter Academy. He enjoyed building lasting friendships with teammates, and he even earned leadership roles on both teams. They taught him valuable lessons in responsibility and motivating others to success.

Outside of the sandlot, Max was actively involved in his high school and greater community. He served as a member of the Beta Club, National Honors Society, and the Community Service Club. He was inspired to join these clubs because they led to opportunities to serve his community, something Max is passionate about. He also spent time volunteering at Out of the Garden Project to combat hunger and at the High Point Miracle League, giving kids with disabilities a chance to play baseball.

“An important lesson I learned from this service was to never take anything given to you for granted,” he says. “There is always someone less fortunate than you who wishes they could trade places with you in life.”

In between games, practices, club meetings, and community events, Max found time to pursue one of his greatest achievements — becoming valedictorian of his class. Reaching this academic accomplishment required a lot of hard work, but Max’s determination never faltered.

“To me, this accomplishment is a symbol of all my hard work and perseverance through high school despite experiencing setbacks, failures, and many difficulties,” he says.

When it came time for his college search, Guilford had everything Max was looking for. As a Greensboro native and part of a legacy family, the College was a household name. “I chose Guilford because of its familiarity and closeness to home,” Max says. “Guilford’s smaller class sizes will also allow me to have closer relationships with my peers and teachers, making me feel more valued.”

He plans to pursue a degree in Mathematics with hopes to combine his love for baseball and sports with his mathematical talent to become a statistician for a professional sports team.

Max also plans to continue his baseball career, following in the footsteps of older sister Haley Green ’18 who was a member of Guilford’s softball team

“I'm excited to meet new people and make new friends with fellow classmates on campus. I’m looking forward to creating more relationships with classmates and my teammates on the baseball team that will last beyond college,” he says.
