Check out these photos of Milner Residence Hall, recently refreshed and debuted to rave reviews! Originally opened in 1962, it now houses roughly 250 Guilford first-year students.
In its main entrance, terrazzo flooring and walnut paneling, hidden for years under carpet and dry wall, have been restored, as have other original granite entrances, ceramic tile, and solid iron railings.

A 2,200-square-foot Community Room provides a highly modern and collaborative recreation space. A large demonstration kitchen with granite counters, stainless steel appliances, and a demonstration mirror for cooking classes is a major feature of the new space. Additions to the recreational area include Bluetooth audio, smart TVs, ping pong, foosball, and a walk-out patio with a view of the student Quad.
Bathrooms are updated with higher ceilings, durable materials including marble, granite, and terrazzo, as well as private bathing and dressing areas. Students enjoy a central HVAC system, along with high-speed internet and LED lighting in each bedroom.
Accessibility and security upgrades include an elevator, automatic door openers, audible and visual fire alarm devices, interior and exterior security cameras, and an emergency power generator.
Named for the Milners, Clyde Milner came to Guilford in 1930 to teach Philosophy and was Dean of the College from 1930 to 1934. He then became the fourth President of the College and served for more than 30 years. His wife, Ernestine Milner, was a member of the faculty and administration and served as Dean of Women. The Milners were a beloved campus fixture for a generation of Guilfordians until 1965.
