Take a moment to explore Binford Hall, a residence hall for first-year students at Guilford College.
Originally opened in 1962, a recent restoration returned Binford to its former beauty, including original walnut paneling and terrazzo floors. “We aimed to restore and reuse as much as we could,” says Brett Hacker, Director of Facilities and Energy Management, “all the while keeping in mind the architect’s original vision and improving upon it where we were able.”

The building is now filled with natural light, even in the basement, which also houses a demonstration kitchen, pool table, 80-inch flat screen, leather couches, and laundry machines that alert students when washing/drying cycles are complete.
In addition there's the Orangerie — a 1,100-square-foot, glass-walled, Binford-adjacent student activities space visible from the main Quad. It offers flexible, indoor-outdoor furniture, a 4K resolution projection system, and the latest in A/V technology.
