This experiential team-taught course took place in and on the grounds of Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, in the far northeastern reaches of England.
The course explored the intersections and distinctions between the causal systems, modalities, and mechanisms of magic and medicine.
Site visits include the island castle and priory of Lindisfarne, Edinburgh, Scotland, the Magic & Medicine Garden of Dilson, Alnwick town, and the castle's gardens and park grounds.

In this course, students took an in-depth look at the prison system in North Carolina and Norway.
During their two weeks in Norway, students visited Bredtveit, a women’s maximum-security prison; Halden, a men’s maximum-security prison; and Bastøy, a men’s minimum security prison situated on an island where the incarcerated are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the prison.
Greensboro has a rich history of refugee resettlement and Diya Abdo's class offered an immersive look into this history.
This course took students on a deep dive of the Gate City's refugee history, communities and service providers.
Through site-visits, field trips, readings, films, training and talks by local experts, students learned about forced displacement and how they can support refugee resettlement.
Lights at Full taught students the foundational properties of circuitry, optics, and color in application of the creation of a light design.
Students learned how to use light, color, angle and shadow to create mood and evoke a particular psychological reaction in an audience.
Students also learned the practical skills of how to make a light plot and program a light board, hang cable, focus, and implement the design they constructed.

Food and Faith explored the interconnections between spiritual and value system and modes of agriculture we support.will explore the interconnections between spiritual and/or value systems and the modes of agriculture we support.
Through discussion, independent and group reflection, experiential learning through hands-on activities (cooking, preserving, gardening) and off-campus site visits, students learned more about land conservation, communion, and connection.
One of the most impactful parts of the Guilford Edge is the partitioning of semesters to include a 3-week session. Many students took advantage of study abroad options during this time and journeyed to far-away locations such as New Orleans, Spain, Germany, Norway, India, and England. Other students stayed in Greensboro for a collaborative deep dive into such subjects as the Physics of Stage Lighting, Forced Migration, or Food and Faith.
