2008 Gate City Soup Bowl

Dear fellow alums,

Gate City Soup Bowl

Guilford’s 2008 football season will begin with a bang on September 6. For the twelfth straight year, the Quakers will take on Greensboro College in the 2008 Gate City Soup Bowl.

Along with what is sure to be an exciting game is the opportunity to support a great cause. Admission for the game is a donation of canned good items; hence, the name Soup Bowl. Second Harvest, a regional food bank that serves the Triad community and counties west of the Triad, and the Servant Center of Greensboro are again in a food shortage and the school wants to help them bridge the gap. All 16 athletic teams on campus are competing to see who can donate the most soup cans. I would like to see the alumni of Guilford come together and make the largest donation of canned goods. There are many people who rely on these canned goods for their daily meals.

Even if you are not planning to attend the game, you can still participate. From now until Friday, September 5, you can drop off your donation of canned goods in Yadkinville at the Edward Jones office. The office is located on Hwy 601 across from the courthouse or if you live closer to Greensboro, you can drop your canned goods off at the Alumni House or at the Athletics Office..

Thank you in advance for your support and aiding a great cause!

                                                            All the best,

Dear DC area Guilford Alumni!

We are pleased to report that the DC alumni network continues to build momentum. We have already enjoyed several successful events, including a tour of the Botanic Gardens, a river cleanup, and several happy hour events. Our alumni e-mail list continues to grow, and we hope that you will continue to encourage your fellow alumni to contact us so that they might be added to the e-mail list as well.

In addition, we hope to see an increase in the number of announcements of personal updates for class notes. You can now submit notes online.

Everyone enjoys reading about their classmates, so don't be shy!

As always, if you would like to schedule a Guilford Alumni event, please contact the DC Regional Council at dcalumni@guilford.edu

Sincerely,

The Guilford DC Regional Alumni Council
