Community Response Team
Guilford’s community response team handling the College response to the Bryan Hall courtyard incident of Saturday, Jan. 20, is led by President Kent Chabotar and draws on the expertise of other senior administrators responsible for enrollment, academic affairs, campus life, campus ministry and college relations. With varying membership, the College employs the team to coordinate an effective response to significant campus incidents and emergencies, with special emphasis on the needs of students. The team responded to the two ice storms in 2002-03 in which large portions of the campus lost heat and electricity and also the legal and media events surrounding a Guilford student taking boxcutters and other material on airliners in 2003 to support his claim about security gaps in the air transportation system.
The response team:
- Meets regularly with President Chabotar and tracks developments related to the incident, including the progress of the internal judicial process.
- Gathers information that will be helpful in decision-making that ultimately rests with the president.
- Communicates on a regular basis with media, the campus community and other college constituents.
